I’m Andrea Gary of Andrea Gary Interiors, LLC and I’m a fresh addition to the Home Staging scene in the DC area. This is my passion and where my heart lives. Interiors, architecture and design have had my attention from a young age. As a little girl I would work on projects around the house to paint, stain, polyurethane and more with my mom. I can just smell the scent of the stain as I’m writing. Next I would rearrange furniture according to my mom’s sketches that were inspired by HGTV and dive into every Elle Décor Magazine. Both were 2 things that were always around the house. Not only did I love seeing the beautiful spaces, but I loved seeing the pictures of the gorgeous galas because I plan on being there one day. I dream of leaving a mark, making a positive impact through my purpose and meeting great people along the way. With all this in mind, I went on to attend and graduate from The Art Institute of Philadelphia with a Bachelor of Science in Interior Design.
Holding on to my dream, I stayed the course by interning with local designers and working with fabric and furniture in the Washington Design Center. My daily interaction with the who’s who of local interior designers pushed me to research how to start a business and I did just that. If you want to be great, you have to surround yourself with people who are where you want to be. Life is about learning and gaining new experiences. I knew I wanted to create fabulous spaces in homes where people could feel warm and welcome. I knew I wanted to help people better enjoy their homes, so I did like most people and I turned to Google! LOL! While online I came across the name Barb Schwarz and home staging. Barb is the creator of the Home Staging concept and stagedhomes.com, a professional real estate broker, a best-selling author along with many other titles. Her teachings aligned with what I was looking to do and I learned so much from her trainings. I completed her course and became an Accredited Staging Professional.
What’s Home Staging and how can you benefit from it? Those are great questions and I’m glad you asked! “Let me break it down so it can forever be brokeeee”-a line from my favorite movie of all time Love Jones. -I digress. Home Staging (Staging to sell) is not interior design, but I’ll tell you more on (Staging to Live) in another post. Staging to sell is the art of providing a vision for how the builder of the house intended each space to be used. Furniture, décor and accessories are used to present the house with flavor. It provides a clear perception of space so potential buyers can relate. Just think, if you walk through an empty house, it may be hard for you to visualize what could or would go in each space. Staging does the work for you so you can better connect with the space. Staging can have such a great impact on selling a house that even the National Association of Realtors did a report called National Association of Realtors 2015 Profile of Home Staging. The report found, “among REALTORS® who typically represent the buyer, 49 percent report most buyers are effected by home staging and 47 percent report some buyers are effected by home staging.” Either way you cut, you want your house or listing to stand out and be competitive to sell. Staging the property can do just that!
